Following an extraction, the body loses about 20% of the surrounding bone in the first few months. It is important to minimize or prevent this so we have enough bone to later place an implant. Grafting the site of the extraction also promotes faster and more effective healing in the area.

During socket preservation, the tooth is extracted with minimal trauma and therefore there is usually little or no discomfort during or after the procedure.

Procedure: Dr. Carbonaro administers a local anesthetic and gently extracts the tooth and then fills the site with grafting material which functions as a scaffolding for the growth of the patient's own bone cells.
