Periodontally Accelerated Orthodontics, or Wilckodontics, is a blend of periodontic and orthodontic treatments that speed up the realignment of teeth. Normal braces align teeth to their new position within one and a half to three years. With Periodontally Accelerated Orthodontics, Dr. Carbonaro can decrease that time significantly: treatment typically spans three to eight months.

The procedure is ideal for adolescents and adults who are reticent to receive traditional orthodontic treatment due to the time commitment. Patients report that the discomfort associated with PAO is also less than with traditional treatment.

As part of the process, Dr. Carbonaro uses his training as a periodontist to “soften” the bone surrounding the teeth and move them into their new alignment. He also places grafting material along the jaw that will strengthen into bone within a few months. Braces are put on to maintain tooth alignment while the jaw finishes incorporating the new bone. As a result, the patient not only has a beautiful smile, but more support for their teeth.
